Insurance Law
Insurance Law covers matters that arise out of insurance the most common being policies and claims and is generally governed by state law in the United States. The three primary areas of Insurance Law are regulation of (1) the general insurance industry, (2) the content and terms contained within insurance policies (especially consumer insurance policies), and (3) handling of insurance related claims. The Insurance industry also includes “reinsurance” – which is insurance purchased by one insurance company (the “cedant”) from another (the reinsurer). This risk management practice involves setting terms for the reinsurer to pay the insurer’s losses in return for the reinsurer who is paid a reinsurance premium by the insurer.
