We are a DCFS licensed site and staff needs an updated physical every few years. We do not provide Health Insurance and we assume that everyone is covered by Healthcare as of March 31st. Can we ask that the employee go to their own physician and get a physical and pay for it. Or is the employer required by law to pay for the exam?

Here is the state's requirement for Daycare Facility personnel:

It would appear that the state only requires the exams to be done every two years.

The law seems to be silent as to who should pay for the exam.

In that case, you (the employer) can pay for the exam, or require each employee pay for his or her exam.

If I were unsure, before I did ANYTHING, I'd simply inquire of DCFS.

Just to add to AJ's response, in general if the state requires the exam, the employee pays for it. If you require the exam, you pay for it. YMMV.

I love the YMMV.

Let me qualify that, if it means what I think it means. LOL
