I can not afford a lawyer nor can my husband. How can we separate our property and accounts? Can we list what we want to take with us and any alimony on a paper and sign the agreement with a witness notary?

You can DIY divorce. Exactly how you do it depends on where you live. Talk to your local court clerk.
