This is a question for anyone who has experience working with the NY state Education Department.
I am trying to help someone with all the necessary qualifications, experience and a mental health counseling license in another state to obtain a license in New York. The difficulty seems to be of bureaucratic nature: the person's masters degree is in "psychology" while the law says that it must be in "mental health counseling" or equivalent. The rest of the application is flawless as far as we can tell.
Instead of trying to determine whether the degree is equivalent, the office in charge of this matter simply denied the application (with a suggestion to get a new degree, no less!).
Is there a local (New York City area) law office which has experience with such cases that would be able to offer us a consultation?
Is there a service which (for reasonable fees) would be able to establish whether or not this particular masters degree in psychology is equivalent to the required mental health counseling masters degree?
Thanks in advance for the help!
