MS a reason not to hire?

I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis after leaving my previous job as a probation officer. I am applying to be rehired. Can they use my MS as a reason not to hire me? I have absolutely no symptoms, so there is nothing keeping me fully doing my job. Is the diagnosis alone enough to keep me from getting a job in law enforcement? I have heard it could be a reason, but how is that legal? I am fully capable and have no limitations.
