I am Japanese and live in Japan now.
I got married with U.S. citizen who is resident of Indiana in 1998.
We were just married in the U.S. procedure without reporting to Japan.
I cannot remember but I think we went to county court to get married.
But after that our relationship turned worse because of his domestic violence and drugs.
So I left him and came back to Japan in 2000 without filing for the divorce .
It has been for 10 years since he last contacted me.
We live apart for over 10 years .
Mybe our marriage already invalid ?

I need to know that if our marriage still continue or not.
Is there any way to examine my marriage situation of the present?
I have searched on some site and paid online to get his/my marriage records.
But results were not found. What does this mean?
we have never got married legal?or it's just they don't keep our marriage records on that site?

I just want to erase relationship between me and him clear but I do not know where he is now.
even if I found his locate, I do not want to contact him.
I know I should ask a lawyer but I cannot afford it.
I don't know what to do.
please give me some advice.

Thank you for reading my poor English.

If you can't find him, stop looking.

You're in Japan, so if you say nothing, no one will know anything.

Just go ahead, live your life.

You're free as a little bird.

Go, fly high in the sky on your own wings!

army judge,

Thank you for your reply!

as you said ,if I say nothing, no one will know anything.
BUT I have a fiance now.(he is Japanese)

if I marry now,it is bigamy.(I found out about it)
I am afraid to give him trouble.

so I need to know what my status in U.S. is.....

You said you could find no record of your marriage.

Perhaps, you weren't legally married?

Sometimes, unsrupulous people trick foreigners into thinking they marry them, when they arrange sham marriages.

This could have been your situation.

Yes, if you were married, it would be bigamy.

If not, it isn't.

If it were me, I'd choose to believe it to be the latter.

I see...

I just hope I wasn't legally married!

Your reply make me feel relieved:)
Thank you army judge!!

I think you're right to want to be sure. You can call the clerk of the court in the county in which you were married. If you were married, they will have a record of it. If your husband has divorced you, they should also have a record of that.

Here's a link to the clerks of the court of all the counties in Indiana:
