Hello, I wanted to know what are the grounds for child support modification in the state of Hawaii? Me and my husband just recently married in the year of 2014 and I just found out that I am 2 months pregnant with our baby. The issue is that my husband owes child support to his ex-wife who now lives in Florida with their twin boys. It is a substantial amount of his current income. I'm worried that once our baby is born that we will not be able to have the financial support we need for our growing family because of his current owing in child support to his ex-wife. Will we be able to get a modification on the amount he owes in child support once our child is born?

You can investigate HIS options here:

In a couple words, the state will allow a small reduction for your unborn child AFTER it is born.

How much?

You can get an estimate by using this calculator:

From what AJ posted in the links he so kindly found for you, a reduction of 0$ is possible.

How much does a small reduction look like?

You need to supply YOUR income and expense data and calculate it for yourselves.
I don't know how much money you and hubby make, nor do I want to know.

If it were Texas, it wouldn't be much. It varies, but $30, $50, $100 comes to mind. As I said, small reduction, a relative term.

The good news, NONE of YOUR income can be taken to support hubby's kids.

But, the authorities sure can take LOTS of his income to help support his kids.

Unless you marry a millionaire, most working people can't afford to divorce, remarry, breed other kids, and support TWO families.

Heck, most people can't afford to have kids with person A, B, C, etc... And marry or live with Person D, and have more kids.

It's tough enough these days having 1 or 2 kids, supporting them with one person.

Plus, you see what he's doing or not doing with his kids in Florida.

Today he's with you. Have you thought about if you ever leave him, or he leaves you? I hope it never happens, but stuff happens.

I wish you well. I hope you have a healthy, happy baby and a great life. But, taking care of THREE kids is tough, especially if you only have one!
