Help! I am a single girl who recently had to start paying child support. I live very modestly with a roomate and have a son who is living the majority of his time with his father at this time. My sons father is married and makes significantly more than I do. He lives in a home where I am in an apartment in which I share a bedroom with my son. I am paying 25% of my net income to my son's father and while he is living lavishly I am barely getting by financially. I am late on bills and in need of medical care that I cannot afford. Any suggestions on how to help my situation or get these payments reduced? Please I am in need of help!

Contact a local attorney and ask for a modification of your support order. If you can't afford one, file pro se. If your finances are as you say, and his are better, you could get your support payments lowered; especially if you have medical problems. But, you need proof. So, if you do go pro se, get proof!

Welcome to a man's world. Most of the time its a man paying that ridiculous amount and a woman that doesn't care. I hope you get it reduced to something reasonable, just like I do for the men who are in that predicament.

I agree if you were a man the courts would not care. You have to support your child just like if you had custody you would get support. CA does look at both parents incomes so his income was probably factored into it. Unless you can get him to agree to lower it I do not see why it should be lowered. His wifes incomes has nothing to do with this.

I absolutely agree 100% with this post.
