I live in Texas, and my wife and I are divorcing. Her gross income is 130,000.00/yr, mine is 73,000.00/yr. Will the fact that she makes almost twice what I make have any bearing on the amount of child support I will be obligated to pay for our 3 children, ages 15,13, and 11 ?

What are the grounds for the divorce?

How long were you married?

Were you married in Texas?
----If not, where were you married?

How long have you resided in Texas?

Are either of you in the military?

Do either of you have at least ten years invested in a municipal, state, or federal pension?

Do you own 401-k investments, stocks, bonds, precious metals, etc?????

Are you the petitioner or respondent?

What is her profession?

What is your profession?

Have you retained an attorney?

Has she retained an attorney?

Are you seeking spousal support or maintenance?

Is she seeking spousal support or maintenance?

Do you own a home?

What is the net worth of your marital estate?

Who will maintain the health insurance for the children?

Do any of the children have any "special needs"?

What custodial arrangements for the children are you seeking?

What custodial arrangements is she seeking?

This link is somewhat ILLUSTRATIVE of how support is calculated.

Other factors, such as I've proffered, are often taken into account.

The time to debate this issue is before it is adjudicated.

The disparity in your incomes plays an important factor in determining what you didn't ask about, "spousal support".
