i recently registered my childs birth and put his fathers name as the surname i am now regretting doing this is there anyway i can replace it with my surname?

Sure.
You can simply file an amended birth certificate to correct the error.

The time limits vary between the states.

You can contact the authorities that record births in your state to see how your state does it.

Some people also say they made a mistake in name or that that person is not the father and you don't know who the father is.

The other conventional way is to hire a lawyer and petition the court for a name change.

Bottom line there are several ways to accomplish what you desire.

Are you basing this on varying US laws or did you actually look up the laws for England?

I'm not so sure she can amend the birth certificate if she listed a man as the father. That is a signed admission of paternity. It is possible. The UK thing is beyond me though.
