    Deduction

Last year I bought a used car from a private owner "as is". 2 weeks later the engine went.Long story, short, I traded it in and of course didn't get back nearly what I paid. Can I claim this loss on my taxes? Thanks

    Privacy Act

HIPPA or HIPAA, you obviously knew what I meant...that was the importance of this post. I do not have a problem with him finding out where we were to contact us, my issue was him telling a complete stranger "why" he needed the #s. Identifying himself is fine by me, but he did not need to go...

    Privacy Act

Does law inforcement have to follow some sort of privacy act? I work in a hospital where we have "HIPPA" laws, which menas if I am caught talking about a patient I can get fired. There was an incident where my son was summons by the police and my wife and I weren't home. For some reason, (my is...

    Inappropriate use of police vehicle

Incidentally, it was the Commander in Chief who told us to file. And actually, just the fact that this "Cop' was already told about the complaint, (his wife is blabbing all over work), is Good enough for me!

    Inappropriate use of police vehicle

Just what we thought. We are in the process of filing a complaint, but wanted to double check. Thank you. Interesting how it is "not-so-easy" to obtain one of those forms.

    Inappropriate use of police vehicle

A co-worker of mine told us that when she first met her husband, he had taken her for a "joyride" in his cruiser going about 100mph with the lights on. Is this legal? I'm not sure if he was on duty, or does that matter? Thanks

    Something I'd like to share...

    Something I'd like to share...

Recently a friend of mine was parked in front of a bar with a few friends. He is 19 and so were they. They were standing on the sidewalk talking to some friends. After the conversation, they got back in the car and drove away. A policeman followed them and pulled him over stating he had not one...

    Ebay purchase

I am sure this was addressed before. My friend purchased an $800 camera on e-bay which he never recieved. After several unanswered e-mails, and contacting e-bay, they were only able to recover $300. Is this common? Is there anything else he can do to get this money?? Apparently after doing some...

    Violating Civil rights

Thanks for all your replys. After all said and done, the D.A., not exactly willingly and much "hounding" by our lawyer, decided to drop the original 4 days in jail and $1000 fine to just a $500 fine and no jail time since he spent the 2 wrongful days from something else. Personally, I think the...

    Town Blog

I plan on starting a town blog. I want people to express themselves on all topics. Sharing good news and bad around town. My concern is, can anyone including myself get in any kind of legal trouble if a policeman, lawyer, store owner, etc., had offended that person and they mentioned their names...

    Violating Civil rights

So...is this something that happens often? What we really want is an apology, which I know coming from a police dept, would be unrealisitc. But I would love an article in the paper stating the police made the mistake, after all they had no problem printing his name when it happened. Alittle...

    Lawyers and cops

Are some lawyers in good with the cops? I sometimes feel that a lawyer will be on the cops side.

    Violating Civil rights

Our son was "mistakenly" thrown in jail for 2 days. The arresting officer sighted him for a criminal charge and had him brought to county jail. After 2 days there, he was released. We called the detective to find out the story. He told us it was actually a civil charge and should have never...
