Is it unethical and grounds for termination for a paralegal to have a friendship with a past client or a personal relationship with a cold call into the office that was deemed not to be eligable for representation? They were out of the area, the matter was in a court hundreds of miles away where the office did not practice law, and was referred to another attorney..thank you no handbook, rules of conduct anf fired based on hearsay, no documented proof??

Whether it is unethical is a matter of opinion.

However, what you have described is not a wrongful termination. An employer is not a court of law and is not required to have proof, or even grounds. In every state except Montana, and even including Montana in some circumstances, an employee may quit at any time and for any reason, and the employer may fire them at any time and for any reason not specifically prohibited by law.
