Wrongful dismissal

I accidentally cut a coworker (friend) at work with a kitchen knife. It was not a malicious act. I apologized and told my friend that I was very sorry. I was placed on administrative leave without pay and stand the possibility of being fired for this act. Can this be done and what course of action would should I need take in this matter?

Yes, they can legally fire you for this even though it was an accident and even though you apologized. Your recourse, should this happen, would be to file for unemployment and look for another job.
