Verbal Slander/Abuse?

I took off 2 days vacation to attend a funeral. My boss said it was ok and "to go ahead."
Upon my return to work I was told in front of another employee that I was a dumb*** and stupid. That I was suspended and to never pull this cr** again.
I replied that "but you said...."
And then was told that if I didn't "shut up" I would get fired.
My question is - can you a) reprimand somebody in front of another employee who is at the same level as you? b) can you call me "names?" c) can I be suspended for taking vacation time to attend a family funeral?

Read your employer's bereavement policy. As far as your boss, yes, he can act like a jerk in front of other employees to reprimand you. Good luck to you!

The answer to all three questions is yes. The reason the answer is yes, is that there is no law that says he cannot.

If being a jerk were illegal, we'd need a lot more jails.
