Hello, I work in construction supervision in Ontario, Canada. I started working on a project just over a year ago and was promised verbally that at the end of the project I would receive a bonus of 5% of 'Over-Bid-Profits'. I have worked diligently at the project and our OBP's are around 300k.
Recently, I went under salary negotiations as I was unhappy with my current salary and have employment options elsewhere. During negotiations I was offered a raise, however it still did not fully satisfy me. My employer again verbally reiterated that if I was unhappy with my salary that the bonus on the project might offer me some satisfaction for the time being until the next round of negotiations takes place.
I had informed my employer that I had spoken with another company and was considering taking another position upon completion of my current project. Now with just over a month left in the project I have been laid-off, and have been told that the bonuses are never garaunteed.
Am I entitled to my bonus? What actions can I take to ensure I receive it?
