Verbal and Physical Abuse

There is someone at my workplace which verbally harasses me daily via email as well as face to face, and has recently threatened me with physical violence. We are peers and though I have never done anything to this person, I feel that he is trying to intimidate me in order to look better come promotion time.

I like my job but it is getting harder and harder to go in everyday. I really need this job but I am afraid to talk with HR because it may make it worse if he finds out. What are my legal options and what are my legal options if he ever does physically attack me?

You need to file a complaint with HR. If you do nothing then the attacks will continue. Save all the emails as evidence and you also might want to contact the EEOC. They will determine if you are being illegally treated. HR is required to do something about this harrassing behavior.
