Can a manager threaten you constantly with your job? He does it in a way so that he can get people to do things. Nothing illegal or anything, some of it is just wrong. I am in Kansas.
Thanks

Sharon - unfortunately, some managers don't know how to motivate people and the only way they do that is by throwing empty threats at their subordinates. If you are the one being subject to those threats, see if filing a complaint at HR does make a difference. Can he threaten you? yes, but when it becomes a habit, then your manager has a serious problem. Contact an attorney if the threats put your safety and well being at risk. Hope this helps!

There's more than one way of looking at this. I've also had posters asking whether or not it was legal to fire someone when you were never told that your job was in jeopardy.

At least he's making you aware of the possibility.
