My son just received a third DUI in PA 7 years after his last one.
Will there be any leniency shown in penalties i.e. jail time, suspension etc because there has been this "no offenses" period?

PA has recently change the law for DUI offenders.

Read the DOT website for full disclosure.

Your son has qualified for prison time with his latest escapade.
If he wants to POSSIBLY reduce his sentence, he should immediately, voluntarily seek treatment.
It should be treatment in a hospital setting.
If he completes it (with the court's permission of course), he is accepting responsibility.
It will eventually help him and POSSIBLY reduce his prison time.

With 2 or more prior DUI offenses; here is what COULD happen to your son!
  1. 1st degree misdemeanor
  2. 18 month license suspension
  3. 90 days to 5 years prison
  4. $1,500 to $10,000 fine
  5. treatment when ordered
  6. 1 year ignition interlock
