We have a 20yr old daughter that has a 21/2yr old daughter. They have both lived with us since the baby was born, they spent a short time in Florida (less than 6 months). Our daughter has not completed highschool nor has she worked for any length of time. She has gotten herself in trouble with writing bad checks and is in debt to others. At this point in her life she shows no responsibility or plan for the future. As the parents and grandparents we are the sole providers.
Our daughter does not like our rules and wishes to leave, we want to know if there is anyway we can request temporary custody of the child until her mother gets her life straight. It is our fear that if she takes the baby with her that she will end up being take from her.

It all depends on your specific state law and your specific situation, so it is not possible to answer things in detail here.

But one thing is clear: if she is not cooperating voluntarily it will mean that "her child is being taken away from her" as you say, even if you will end up being the one with custody. You would have to get the state involved, courts etc.

It is a very traumatic thing to do, so it needs careful consideration. And once the state gets involved you never know what the outcome will be.

So my advice is to try to get her to cooperate voluntarily and find a solution. You should seek professional counselling together.
