taking custody of newborn after parental rights relinquished but before homestudy com

My husband and I have the opportunity to adopt a new born in Florida we reside in New York. Is there a way to get custody or guardianship of this infant even temporarily until homestudy is complete? Baby born 10/09/2009
mom has been released from hospital and baby to be released Fri or Sat. How can we get this baby home with us at my parents house while we wait for all the paperwork? Please let me know if there is away to take guardianship or temporary custody while awaiting adoption. Thanks for your help. Jennepher
 
I would concur with Baystate. Either your attorney should answer that question or the adoption agency that is handling the case should. Either way I doubt seriously there will be any custody arrangement until the homestudy is done. Until then no one can vouch for the safety of the child. Patience. It will happen. I was adopted in Florida. I was born April 20 and placed July 5th. The interim was homestudy period. Congratulations.
