Retro Child Support

Does anyone know that law on retro child support? A court order for me to have primary custody took place on Aug. 29th. The child support amount/hearing won't be until Oct. 4th which is a little over a month after the custody hearing.

Is he required to pay for the month of September according to the custody order or does a support order have to be in effect before he is required to start paying?

The child support should be retro to the Aug. date. Most won't start paying until they are required to. He should have to make it current as soon as possible.
