Does a public defender have the right to call a victim to make an attempt to get them to change their story ever when the evidence is so compelling as to make the attempt stupid

If this happened to you, you should probably contact the prosecutor or the investigating officer ASAP and let them know what happened. Depending on what was said, this might be at least unethical, maybe criminal.

Perhaps the PD has discovered a witness (or witnesses) telling a different version of events.
The PD might know something you think you know, but don't really know.
That said, if you feel PRESSURED or COERCED to LIE, as "CDW" suggested, by all means tell the district attorney or and investigator on the DA'a staff.
