Possible Relocation

I have residental custody of my seven year old son, his father does have frequent vistation with him. I feel I am in a mess,....I would love some advice.
I am engaged to a man in the coast guard that has to move to San Diego in July. My sons father is totally against me moving with our son. Any advice on this matter?? What kind of fight will I have with the courts? Thanks in advance.

What you do with your son is driven by the custody order.

Usually, you can't relocate your child without the court's permission.

In fact, taking the child out of the state might be restricted in a custodial order.

Your son's father will be asked for input.

His wishes to see his son will be taken into consideration.

Ultimately, a judge will decide, but he'll listen to both of you.

In cases similar to yours, judges generally do not approve of a cross country relocation for children.

If the new man is more important than your child, you could relinquish physical custody to the boy's father.

Then, you could get visitations and arrange for holiday and school breaks.

You have much to think about.

Moving to pursue a relationship is not in the childs best interest,it is yours. FL is not an easy state to move out of. Dad has the right to fight the move and ask for custody. If all the extended family is in FL you will have a hard time moving with the child. Think about it, you would not allow Dad to move with the child? This is a huge distance we are talking about and Dad will turn into a several times a year Dad. It does not look good but you will have to speak to an attorney and you may have a long expensive court battle on your hands and you may still lose.
