If a child is 5 years of age and hasn't seen the bio father for over three years and the father has made no attempt to contact child (he has multiple felonies for hard drugs) can he go to the school an check the child out? The child doesnt even know him. He has been in prison and the fear is that he will try to kidnap her. Paternity was just filed about 18 months ago through DHS because it was required for the child to get insurance through the state. The child has a very stable home and is doing so well. Bio Father is still in prison and will be out in a few months. What do I need to do? Will the school allow a bio parent to just take the child? If custodial rights are filed by us then how strict can we make the visitation? How much does it normally cost to file for custody? Very concerned. Before he went to prison he said he would burn the child and Mom in a fire if she ever tried to leave him. Thank you for your time.
