I worked OT during the week of the 4th of July. My employer was generous enough to pay me for Independence Day which is not required to be paid in the state of FL however; my time was paid at regular pay rate vs time & a half. The only OT that was paid to me was for 30 minutes out of 48.5 hours.
My employer stated that due to the holiday my hours would not be considered OT therefore the OT rate does not apply. Is this correct?....Im a nonexempt employee for an Environmental Services Co.

Your employer is absolutely correct. Overtime is due on hours WORKED, not on hours PAID. Hours paid for but not worked, such as holidays, vacation, sick time, etc. do not need to be included in overtime calculations. And that is true in every state.
