Never paid for time worked...

A few weeks ago, I was hired by a mortgage company who was just starting up in the area. My first day, the first thing I asked my employer was if I could fill out my tax papers. They replied with, well we don't have any of those yet. When the day was up, I decided that the job was not for me because I learned that the employer had hired me under false pretences (hiring me as "office manager" with intentions of making me a commissioned salesperson). Anyway, to make a long story short, I sent them my hours (along with my mailing address) the next day and basically said thanks but no thanks. To this day, I have not received any compensation for my day's work. What can I do?

Contact your State's Department of Labor and file a complaint for the unpaid wages.
