Legal rights - open adoption

My boyfriend is having a hard time dealing with an open adoption issue. He heard a few years ago that his friend was pregnant with his child, and at the time, he didn't believe it. The next time he heard from her wasn't until after she found a family and signed the open adoption papers. He says he legally has no rights to see the child since he wasn't on the open adoption papers, so he has to go through the birth mother on her visitations to see the child. Is there anything he can do now to get onto the open adoption and get his own legal rights to see the child?

He needs an attorney, as soon as possible. If he was never notified or served the adoption may actually be overturned.

With that said, he has to bear something in mind - depending on the age of the child it could be incredibly traumatic to have such a major disruption in his/her life.

I once represented a woman in a similar situation.

Her boyfriend lied to her about a similar matter.

She spent thousands of dollars to supposedly help him get his child that he denied knowing about.

The money never went for the adoption.

The boyfriend used it for drugs and gambling debts.

The guy had known about the baby for at least 18 months when he lied to her.

We discovered a paternity test on file just after the bay's birth.

Make sure you trust but verify any and all such claims.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but many men lie to women for all manner of tawdry reasons!
