Hi. I am writing a social issues report on emancipation and legal guardianship...and the problems involved with these processes. If you have had experience regarding guardianship, for example you were the child in question, please take the time to answer the following questions to the best of your ability. Also, if you post a response, please include your first name if it is convenient so that I can cite you properly.

Thanks!

Here are the questions:
1. When you were undergoing the process of getting a legal guardianship, what were some of the obstacles that stood in your way?

2. Why were you getting a legal guardianship?

3. Were there any problems after getting the legal guardianship? If so, what kind?

4. This question is for people who have had experience in court: How often does a court grant a legal guardianship? Under what conditions?

i gave my sister guardianship of my son in 2002 and have had constant contact with him since then but now i have found out that i have no parental rights. How does this happen. I didnt want tosign over my rights, i had to be away for a few months and had to have her take hm, Why do i have to pay child support for all this time that i havent had any rights to him. My sister and i get along but i am thinking now that she was afraid i would try to take him back that she went behind my back and did something,. Is it possible to lose your parental rights and not know? How do i find out the answers to these questions.

You really should start your own thread with this.

This is a thread, "Legal Guardianship: Effective or Not?"

To make a new thread, first copy your first post. Then go to the top of this page and find this line:

TheLaw.com - Free legal...1995» Family, Marriage, Divorce» Children, Adoption, Custody»

Click on Children, Adoption, Custody. That will take you to the forum with that title. Near the top, on the left, you will find a gray button that says "New Thread." Click on that and you can paste your post into the box, then submit. You will then have your own thread!

When you're finished, come back to this thread and delete your posts by clicking on the 'edit' button in the post. You can then delete it. Doing so will prevent lots of confusion later on.
