Internet Slander about me ...? Help

Hello there,
I am new with this Forum thing, so please bare with me.
Somebody, unknown to me has posted some bad things
about me on the internet. They are choosing to hide behind
an IP address on the post with no name or information about
who is writing this stuff, (Remote Name: 67.27.175.151).
How do I go about removing the false information about me
from the internet...? Also , how do I find out who is responsible for posting it, since they are hiding their name..?
P.S. It's scary that anybody, can say any thing, about anybody they want to on the internet these days, isn't it ..?

Well, first you send a mail to the administrator of that forum explaining to him that this posting on his forum is defamation and ask him politely to remove it.

Then you can go to this website http://www.zoneedit.com/lookup.html?ad=goto&kw=reverse+dns

and put the IP address in. The result will be this:

Now you send an email to the abuse contact and tell them about the poster, giving the details you have, like Time and Day and IP address, asking them to make sure that person will not use their ISP for illegal activity.

Then see what happens.

If you really want to go after the guy who posted that stuff you probably will need legal help, because you need to subpoena the ISP for his real name and address.

If the nature of the "bad mouthing" is small, I'd try to let it go.

Prosecuting someone for harrassing email/forum posts, etc., would be difficult imo. I don't know the extent of harrassment you're facing, so I can't give you advice.. (shouldn't listen to it anyway hehe), U have the parties ip, so I expect harrassment is not good.. ehhe

Both posts here are good. The problem with the Internet is exactly as you describe. Frequently it is difficult, if not practically impossible, to find out who is responsible for postings. In fact, a really good hacker will use someone else's server and IP to carry out their commands and tracing the steps back to the perpetrator can be an impossible task.
