My sister was involved in an automobile crash 10 days ago. An oncoming vehicle crossed the centerline on a Wisconsin highway and hit my sister head-on. She was then hit in the driver's side door by another vehicle that had been following her.
She is currently in the ICU at a local hospital with a multitude of fractures waiting to be repaired. The hospital bill has already exceeded $200k, with no end in sight.
Because the bill has already exceeded the $100k limit of the at-fault drivers insurance, combined with my sisters $100k underinsured limit, I question how the hospital/care bills can possibly be covered.
The at-fault driver is 20 years old, and apparently has no assets. What could a lawyer do in a situation like this?

Thank You

You can't get blood out of a turnip, can you?

A lawyer could probably obtain a judgment against these wrongdoers.

Who knows, bums like that are often lottery winners.

If that happened, you could eventually get something.

If the evil doers didn't own the vehicles, you could sue the vehicle owner(s) or co-owners.

You might also speak with your state crime victim's compensation fund or board. They often assist in cases of this magnitude.

In the end, Uncle Sam and Medicare/Medicaid might also be able to assist.

My prayers and God's blessings to your family, especially
Sis.
