I just received a call from a young man that I used to Pastor. He and his wife are pregnant and do not feel ready to care for this child. They have asked my husband and I to adopt it. Can we just sign papers with lawer or are there other requirements? I have read so many different websites. They all seem to have conflicting information.

Before you get to those, you and your spouse must do some thinking.

Most people report trouble when adopting a baby from people they know.

If I had your relationship with those people, I'd simply feel it would be unethical.

All adoptions require court orders. The best way to obtain one is to hire a lawyer who is familiar with the process in your state and the court where you would be filing.

No you can't just sign a paper with a lawyer.
