I live in Florida (Broward County) and lived with my Ex-girlfriend for 5 years in NY, just moved to FL 6 months ago
She filed a petition for "Dissolution of Marriage" and is asking for half of my assets acrued during the time we were together, along with handling sole possesion to our daughter when she reaches legal age of a property I bought in NY.
LAst 2 Years she has made more money than me and cause of her Job (working late and weekends) I've taken care of my daughter for the most part, and she is very attached to me.
On her petition, she is "allowing me" to see my daughter ONLY 2 days during the week (3 hours) , and Saturday OR Sunday every other week for 6 hours, no Over nights stay and even when she works late, she rather leave her with a babysitter.
I need to file an extension until I find the right legal representation.
How difficult it is and how to do it?

thanks a lot

You said she was your "EX" girlfriend.

If that IS correct, why would she file for dissolution of marriage?

Was she a girlfriend, or were you legally married?

You need a lawyer.

I suggest you speak with a few in your area.

Ask friends, co-workers, and relatives for the names of some they have used or know about.

The first visit is often at no charge.

If you can't find one by the time you are to appear, simply appear and ask the court to grant you a continuance to find a lawyer.

Normally, that is pretty easy to do.

But, don't go back without one.

Do not agree to anything until you have spoken to a lawyer and understand your rights.

If the child was born out of wedlock, I suggest you request a DNA test to establish paternity.

You may be on the birth certificate, but that's meaningless UNLESS you were married.

Finally, do not rely on getting too much help (IF ANY HELP) here.

This is far too important to trust to strangers you don't know.

Get a lawyer ASAP, your lawyer!!!

Thanks for the advice army judge
YES, my EX girlfriend and that's exactly why I'm not sure why she filed like that, eben though she is using an attorney, but not a family one. She's being spiteful cause I got tired of her manipulation through our daughter. We were never, never married and I know for a fact in NY there's no common law marriage.
I spoke to one attorney and would like to get a second opinion but it's been hard to find one that offers free consultation. I'm supposed to respond by July 2nd and that's why I need to file an extension. I'm in the process to get the DNA test before going ahead with the process and a reasonable lab takes 10 business days. I really need the extension to find the right legal representation and get the dna tests back.
Will keep posting updates

Asking random people who may or may not be Attorneys and who may or may not practice this type of law and may or may not be licensed in your state does not count as legal consultation

So this site is useless - is that what you're saying? Any question pertaining to the law is going to be important. What the hell is this sit for then?
