Holiday shutdown

I am in Kansas and work for a manufacturing company. I am Non-exempt salary. They are going to be shutting down for a week for the Thanksgiving holiday. HR and managers tell us we HAVE to use our vacation for this. Some of us are wanting to save our vacation for the Christmas holiday. We are wanting to the days for Thanksgiving off not paid and our HR department tells us we can't. Is this legal? Can we be forced to use our vacation?
 
Yes, you can be required to use your vacation.
