Are all companies required to pay employees time and a half for working holidays? And what about Sundays aren't they included in this special rate? My husband works for a company that pays an extra 8 hours if you work holidays instead of time and a half. Is this legal? Also if you are a minute late they take it away.

With VERY rare exceptions in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and possibly Connecticut, no private employer is required by law to pay time and a half for working on a holiday. The same goes for Sunday work - ONLY some employees in MA and RI are entitled by law to a premium for working on Sunday.

If you are in one of these three states, post back and I'll have some more questions to determine if premium pay is required. If you are in any state except the three named, all your husband is entitled to by law is straight time regardless of what day of the week it is or whether it is a holiday or not. (Note: Regular overtime laws apply - if the holiday work or the Sunday work puts him at over 40 hours, then overtime must be paid, but it is the over-40 part that makes it payable at time and a half, not the holiday or Sunday.)
