I live in NJ with my son's father. He asked me to leave. I have no money, family or friends here. They are all in NY. Can I go to NY and file for custody?

not necessarilty. You would have to establish residency in NY first, so you should file in NJ. You might have a problem taking any kids with you if you are ordered to return them, or dad disputes your move.
