My son was a shift manager at a well known fast food restaurant. A childhood friend of my sons was rececently hired. After work one day my son and his friend went to my sons home to hang out. The next day or so another employee complained that they had hung out outside of work and my son was fired on the spot. Another manager had done the same thing and was given a warning. My question is, is it legal to fire someone for hanging out with another employee after work if they had done this previously. And were friends before they were co workers.

Was the other employee also fired?

Sounds like there's more to the story than your son want's to share as that is a really bad reason to fire someone.

Especially when others weren't fired for the same reason..

When I was young I was fired for "improper warranty paperwork" but the mistake I made happened all the time prior to my dismissal and after. The truth was that I was a young little upstart and I annoyed the store manager so much that he was just waiting for something to fire me over.

Sometimes the truth makes no sense until you get the whole truth. ;)
