My employer kept last pay for hiring fees. I was fired for no call/no show. I was stuck in the middle of nowhere on vacation with no more cell phone battery. My mother was able to get in contact with my employer and notified them that i would not be into work. I came home from vacation with a message from my employer saying " Don't worry we got your hours covered for the week." That was on a Tues. On Friday i went to pick up my pay check and was met with a check for $o.oo, and a letter stating I was fired and my check was taken for "the cost of hiring". Is this legal? I need my money especially since they fired me. My employer did say they would discuss about re-hiring me since i talked to them. But they haven't gotten back to me. What can i do to get my check?

You can contact the state DOL and file a complaint for unpaid wages.

Firing you was legal, even if possibly unfair. Withholding your pay was not.
