Divorce without legal separation?

My wife and I have been physically separated for 14 months, although we never filed for a legal separation as the state of New York seems to say is necessary for divorce.
In New York it seems that legal separation has to be in effect for a year before one can file for divorce. Both my wife and I want to divorce, is there any other way, a quicker path than waiting another year after a legal separation is begun? Can we divorce under abandonment grounds (I left her?)

Living separate and apart for one year pursuant to a separation agreement is also grounds for divorce in New York. If you don't have or didn't file a written separation agreement, you can file a memorandum of your separation agreement - i.e. that you agreed to live separate and apart - with the court. It can be -physically if you both are agreed with each other but legally it can take serious problem so it's better to take it legally.
