OP, silence is your friend. Making a statement of any kind, admitting to anything, never a good idea. Miranda Warnings should always be heeded, just give your name, address, date of birth, and request a lawyer, or say until I speak with my lawyer, I have no more to say. If you gave more than your name and biographical particulars, that's too much. I'm begging with you, say no more, my friend.

The thing is, you're not being charged with harming your children. For that, yes, there would need to be more than a "well, it could have".

You're being charged with negligence - putting the children in a situation where harm COULD have come to them. And you did. You were very lucky and no harm DID come to them. But it could have - and that was negligent.
