In our papers it states we have joint custody, with me with primary and his father with secondary, but this was never explained to me what it means. Does this mean we both have to decide on something like if our child needed ADHD meds. Would he have to agree or does me having primary mean I have to ask him, but i make the final decision?
You should have a discussion about your custody order with your attorney.
Maybe you didn't have an attorney while this matter was determined, that's okay.
You take all of your documents and find an attorney to explain EVERYTHING to you.
You can buy an hour of an attorney's time (on average and in may states) for anywhere between $200 to $500.
You can even buy 30 minutes from some attorneys.
So, make a few calls and obtain an appointment with family law or domestic relations attorney.
In answer to your question, you would be what we call in Texas, the managing conservator.
In your state, SC, you would be considered the person that manages the day to day decisions about the child.
That probably means you are the CUSTODIAL PARENT, especially if the child lives with you most of the time, except visits with the other parent.
Yes, you could probably decide if he takes drug XXX as opposed to drug QQQ.
But, without reading teh ENTIRE order, I'm just guessing.
You don't want guesses, that's why you BUY some time with an attorney so you will KNOW!!!!
