How many times are you allowed to file child support modification papers? I agreed to more then 17% for my daughter and now I want to change my mind. One thing for the readers. when your child turns 21 you must go to court to make this change. If you don't and you think you are done paying, think again. Since I stop payment on my own she can go to court and get more money. Everything has to be done in court. I will be owning 40 weeks back child support even that my son is over 21. thanks Zucc

You go to court as many times as it takes to get satisfaction.

I agree, child custody and divorce can seem to be never ending.

These are often the bitter fruit of divorce and domestic break ups!!!!'

That's because it's a court order - and it remains in place until the order is modified (stopped/changed).

I've known at least a few NCPs who, because they assumed it was OK to stop on their own, have owed thousands for adult children.

You can try, but it might be too soon.

The general rule, barring a major life changing event (serious health problem, disability, loss of earnings, a new baby being born, etc...), is that you have to wait at least a year before getting a modification.

Some courts do not follow that guideline.

Some states have statutes that are followed.

Most courts will at least hear what you wish to say.


You can always try, you never know.
