Billed after paid-in-full

We paid off a loan taken on a life insurance policy and were told we were paid in full. We brought cash and were told it wasn't enough. We needed 19.27 more to have it paid in full, so we wrote a check. Six months later, we received a bill stating that we owed a balance of 64.17 for the loan plus interest. When I called the office and asked why we were being charged on a paid account, and why no one contacted us about a balance still being on the loan, she said it was the first she was hearing of it. Apparently the home office computer wasn't in sync with her computer. We ended up paying the money but want to know if we can get that money back if we take the insurance company to small claims court. Also, can we add the loss of pay from work for going to court to the claim?

No, you can only file to recover what is in dispute but , so you know it, it will cost you more money to take her to small claims court than if you just forget it. Just to file a claim, it will cost you about $100 and if you lose, you will have to pay for additional court costs. Unless you feel extremely strong about it, I would just get over it...
