Are Content owners liable over moderator conduct?

Could Website owners be held liable if harassment from moderators occurred?

- moderators are appointed by owners and are volunteers, authorized to enforce policy.

- Are moderators, even though volunteers, considered employees for the website? or would a contract between both parties be needed for moderators to be considered employees.

Good gravy, I hope not. I'm a moderator of several egroup mailgroups. Sometimes I have to ban someone from the list.

A couple of banned folks have emailed me personally, saying they're going to "sue me". I tell them go ahead and try.

It's a volunteer job.
