Accrued vacation for FMLA denied

I put in for two weeks accrued vacation for the birth of our second child, to begin on the date my wife's c-section was scheduled. Initially it was approved, then a month later I was told I could only take one week. Three weeks after returning to work I was subsequently let go. What made matters worse was that two weeks prior to my leave, another employee in the same exact position as me had just been allowed to take a two week leisure vacation. Something just doesn't sit right with me regarding this situation. What really burns me is that my wife was unable to recover properly because we were unable to follow the doctor ordered two week rest period.
