I was in an accident in December 2009 and am now being sued. I was going East on a side road, and the other driver was going West. She turned in front of me, causing me to hit her. Now she is suing me for over $6000 in damages to her car. It seems to me that it's as simple as going in on my own to explain what happened and having the situation end there, as it is clear to me that I was not at fault. Is this right? Or do I need a lawyer?

Have you discussed this with your insurance carrier?

They will often supply an attorney to protect their interests and yours!

If she has an attorney, it won't be simple.
You won't be allowed to just tell your story.

If it is small claims, your strategy might work.

But, you have to have proof.
So, endeavor to collect your proof.

If you made an insurance claim at the time of the accident then you should notify them that you are now being sued.
Have you actually received a summons to court for this, or have you just received a letter demanding payment?
