OK. So there is a good chance my US passport is or will be cancelled. I am abroad. Been abroad for many years. I live abroad. Permanently.

Is there anyway to find out if one's passport IS cancelled?

Will my host nation know? Is there some sort of international database?

Will I be arrested? Deported?

Obviously I have lots of fears. I have a wife and kids here. The last time I was stateside was 2000ish, while I was still single, and apparently got a girl pregnant that I never knew about and have to pay child support. The thing is, I am totally and permanently disabled, and live on $300 a month Social Security.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

One way is that one looks in one's passport and finds the expiration date. If the expiration date has passed then the passport is already cancelled.

If there is still time left on it, try the contact information for the Passport Information Center:

Application Status

Beyond that, I have no idea what to tell you.

When did they start cancelling passports when they expire? Is that new this year?

My passport is new. So you are saying that the cancellation will be exempted for the remaining 10 years?

Already contacted the NPIC. Will not answer my question.

"Federal Passport Denial Program
When a noncustodial parent's failure to pay child support becomes especially egregious, harsher measures are employed. Once you owe more than $2,500 in past due child support, your state CSE notifies the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE). OCSE will in turn notify the U.S. Department of State, who then enrolls your case in the Passport Denial Program (PDP). Established by federal law in 1997, PDP prohibits the issuance and renewal of a noncustodial parent's passport. In other words, once you become more than $2,500 past due in child support, you may not apply for and receive a passport and any passport you currently have will be restricted and revoked. Once this happens, you remain ineligible for a U.S. passport until all arrearages have been paid or an acceptable payment arrangement has been made. Paying only enough to bring your arrearage to less than $2,500 is insufficient; the entire past due balance must be satisfied."

Passport Held Due to Nonpayment of Child Support

I suggest speaking with CSE in the state where you have been ordered to pay child support and make acceptable payment arrangements....otherwise, yes, you will lose the rights to your US passport. As to what consequences that brings to your life, I can't tell you.

How can I pay 100% of my income though? My family and I will be homeless and penniless in a 3rd world country. It just does not seem fair.
