If she was an at will employee she might not even be entitled to severance unless it was promised to her in the company policy manual or she had it put in her employment agreement if she had one. But if she knows dirt she can always discuss a good severance package!!!! ;)

Cheer up. :) Life's too short. Is your depression caused by conditions at work? There might be something for that. Otherwise I don't really know of any other way anyone gets paid compensation to take care of their own stuff. Ride it out. It will get better. :D
It sounds like the farmer is going to lose! If he is suing you, contersue for both a frivolous lawsuit and also for breach of your lease. If it's really that bad and it's totally ridiculous, maybe you should also go after the farmer's attorney and include the attorney in a fraud claim.
