I was arrested on 11-16-2005 in Los Angeles county, CA. With a search warrant the officers confiscated a bunch of my property including electronics, paperwork, my car, etc. I called the evidence dept and was told that the detective had to release the property. When I spoke to him, he told me that because it was taken on a search warrant that I had to have a court order to get get it released. I can't seem to get the same answer from anyone. I was told that I had up to 3 years to claim my property (which is next week). I'm barely getting by and really can't afford to replace all they took so it is an issue of getting my property returned as none of it was used as evidence! What can I do to get my property returned in working order??
