need help

I had shoplifted items less than $100 in the year 2000 I was not arrested or convicted. The store ordered me to pay a fine which I did. I am trying to find a a job since august 2004 without success. Do you think that it is comming up on my background check.

Unless you have been convicted in a court of law, there would be no record of you having done this, even though you were arrested.
