Ex husband's pension

My sister's ex husband retired in Jan.. My sister was told by their son, that the Roofers Union was trying to reach her so they can start sending her part of the pension. She completed the paperwork in September. She thinks he is only entitled to the pension due from the time she completed the paperwork. Did payments begin after she signed up or from the time her ex retired?

Determining what she's entitled to, if anything, will require reviewing the terms of the pension plan and her and her ex's divorce decree.
